§ 82.036. Authority of police officers.

  • (a)

    It is the duty of the officers of the police department or other persons assigned by the chief of police to enforce this chapter and all of the state laws applicable to traffic in the city.

    (b)

    Officers of the police department and officers as designated by the chief of police are authorized to direct traffic by voice, hand signs or signal in conformance with this chapter and other traffic laws. During a fire or other emergency or to expedite traffic or to safeguard pedestrians, officers of the police department may direct traffic as conditions may require, notwithstanding the requirements of this chapter and other traffic laws.
